All of us tend to keep our belongings like keys and phones and forget about them. If you lose your phone, you can always track it down by calling your number or even following its location through GPS and tracking apps. However, this cannot be done with items like keys, wallets, purses and much more. Do you wish there was a solution for this considering all the new technology these days? Of course, you do.

The new Apple AirTag is such a problem solver. The AirTag was launched by Apple in April 2021. It is a tracking device, almost the size of a bottle cap.

Apple first started expanding its compatibility with other devices by allowing the Find My tracking app work with third-party devices. Similarly, the AirTag can also be used with non-Apple devices, not necessarily smart devices. The AirTag can be attached to and can be used to track different items but only tracks through the built-in iPhone app “Find My”.

Let’s shed more light on the Apple Airtag, its features, functions and possible alternatives.

What is the Apple AirTag and how to use it?

Quick overview

  • Weight: 11 grams
  • Diameter: 1.26 inches
  • Bluetooth range of 100 meters
  • Dust resistant
  • IP67 Waterproof
  • Can remain immersed in water for up to 30 minutes
  • Stainless steel disc
  • CR2032 changeable batteries
  • Built in speaker
  • Features Siri Support

Shaped like a button, the Apple AirTag is powered by changeable CR2032 batteries. These batteries do not need recharging, and have a life of up to 1 year. So, you can attach the tag to anything and not worry about recharging it any time soon.

Once you set up the AirTag with your Apple device (iphone, iPad, Mac device or any other), you will be able to see the location of the tag on the Find My application. The tag connects to your phone via bluetooth, and has a range of up to 100 meters. Within this range, you can prompt the tag (from your phone) to make a sound, which will help you locate it or identify the spot where the sound is coming from.

To track and find the AirTag, Apple has incorporated advanced Precision Finding technology that works through the Apple U1 chip. This feature tells you exactly how many feet away the tag is and many other such important details.

AirTag is solely an Apple accessory, so it will only work with Apple devices. However, you can attach the tag to anything and it will work with it. So, how do you attach the tag to your items?

The tag itself does not have any part that attaches itself to your belongings. Instead, you will have to invest in separate accessories such as key holders and then attach it to your belongings. For things like backpacks and wallets, you can also simply secure the tag inside the small pockets where it won’t slip out or be noticeable.

Other than its functionality, the AIrTag is also promised to not locate or share anyone’s location without their permission. This is a huge relief, since tracking devices tend to be very invasive of privacy and security.

Furthermore, you can also personalize your AirTag in an interesting manner. When you are buying the AirTag from the Apple website or their official store, you can have one side of the tag engraved with your choice of numbers and emojis.

The Apple airtag can be used with the following Apple devices:

  • iPhone SE, 6S or later
  • iPod Touch 7th generation or later
  • iPad Pro, 5th generation or later
  • iPad Air 2 or later
  • iPad Mini 4

Since the AirTag works with the Find My App, you might need your iPhone or the Apple device to be switched on and have an internet connection. However, this shouldn’t be an issue because you have LTE and rural internet connections available everywhere now. Considering this, locating your tag shouldnt be an issue.

Apple AirTag price

The Apple AirTag can be bought as a single piece or in a pack of 4 tags. A single one costs around $29, while the pack of 4 costs about $100. Even if the prices are not too much, the problem is that you will have to buy attachment accessories separately. The AirTag itself doesn’t come with anything that can let you attach it to your belongings. These accessories can either be bought directly from Apple or any other seller.

Final Thought

The Find My app by Apple seemed like it was the highest level of advanced technology that Apple could achieve in such a time span. But we were wrong, thanks to the launch of the AirTag this year only. Considering that the app needs a stable internet connection, make sure you are equipped with consistent connectivity by availing internet offers from buytvinternetphone.
